HOW TO VOLUNTEER!4volunteers

Let’s get started!

First--

  • Are you an individual, representing a group of volunteers, who would like to conduct a cleanup on a specific date in a specific location?
  • Are you an individual who would like to join a group of volunteers who will be conducting a cleanup on a specific date and in a specific location?
  • Are you an individual or do you represent a group of volunteers who would like to conduct a cleanup but do not have a location?
  • Do you want to “adopt” a highway or a beach?

To “adopt” a state highway, volunteers must execute an agreement to clean a one-mile stretch of highway 4 times a year, for 2 years; the location of the highway must be approved by the NJ Department of Transportation; and volunteers must participate in a safety training workshop. NJ Department of Transportation installs recognition signs for volunteers. Click here for more information and to register.

To “adopt” beaches, rivers, lakes, streams or other waterways, you must conduct or participate in cleanups 2 times each year. The NJ Clean Communities Council hosts 2 cleanups each year: the Clean Water Challenge, March 1-April 30, and the International Coastal Cleanup (ICC), September XX through December 31. The date of the ICC is determined each year by Ocean Conservancy in Washington, D.C.

The NJ Clean Communities Council provides supplies for cleanups of state highways and beaches.
