Volunteer Cleanups
New Jersey Clean Communities is a grassroots, community-driven program developed to reduce litter in the Garden State. Grant guidelines distributed by the state Department of Environmental Protection direct municipalities to organize at least one community cleanup every grant year. Municipalities receiving over $30,000 are required to organize two community cleanups ever year. As part of its annual awards banquet, the Clean Communities Council honors towns, counties, community organizations, schools and individuals for volunteer service. Award categories include open space, clean water, adopt-a-public place, and volunteer.
The Clean Communities Council also supports the volunteer cleanups other entities.
